Surprise Goalie Target Emerges in Oilers' Hunt, But the Deal Won't Be Easy

Tristan Jarry struggled for much of 2024/25, but with a Stanley Cup pedigree, Jeff Marek has noted that he could be an option for the Edmonton Oilers as they look to upgrade in net after two straight Stanley Cup Finals losses.

The Edmonton Oilers are in major need of goaltending help ahead of the 2025/26 season as they look to go one step further than the past two seasons, but thus far, there's been very little movement on the goalie market.

Both Alex Nedeljkovic and John Gibson have been traded, but beyond that, a clear upgrade hasn't presented itself to Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers, until now that is.

On the latest episode of The Sheet, reporter Jeff Marek sugested an intriguing option, wondering if there was a way that the Oilers could land Tristan Jarry, a two-time Stanley Cup winning goaltender from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As Marek notes, there would need to be retention on the Penguins side of things to make a deal worth it, but with the Oilers looking to potentially land an upgrade, whether as a backup or a starter, Jarry certainly makes sense.

2024/25 wasn't the best for the 30-year old, but the season before he had a .903 save percentage and a 2.91 GAA, and playing behind a talented squad looking to win the Stanley Cup, there's no reason to doubt that he could turn things around.

Ultimately, there'd need to be some other pieces to make this deal worthwhile for both parties, but with the Oilers looking to upgrade in net and the Penguins looking to open up room for their young goaltenders, this is a deal that could make sense if done right.
