Justin Jefferson’s gigantic extension with the Minnesota Vikings opens up the discussion about what the Dallas Cowboys are waiting for to prolong CeeDee Lamb’s stay.
Last Monday, Justin Jefferson signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings for four years and $140 million, with $110 million guaranteed.
The wide receiver became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, with an average annual salary of $35 million.
The announcement stirred up Cowboys Nation and naturally put a bit of pressure on the franchise, which wants to renew the player but has yet to make a move.
CeeDee Lamb won’t let his guard down and accept a smaller amount than he believes he deserves
The OTAs are now in their second week and so far CeeDee Lamb hasn’t turned up. He’s doing a holdout in the hope of speeding up his renewal process with Dallas.
Right from the opening of free agency until Monday, the WR has watched several teams pay their receivers and nothing from his team has taken action on his future.
On the list of the highest-paid wide receivers, following the Vikings star, are A.J. Brown, Amon Ra St. Brown Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Stephen A. Smith didn’t think Lamb should be paid more than Jefferson
On Monday’s edition of the First Take show, Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe discussed JJ’s extension and got to the topic of CeeDee.
Smith doesn’t think the Cowboys receiver is on a higher level to receive a bigger contract than Jefferson.
He made a brief comparison with Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals, who is nowhere near being one of the top paid players, but who has led the team to the Super Bowl.
“I don’t believe that CeeDee Lamb deserves as much as Justin Jefferson. I look at Ja’Marr Chase, that’s a bad brother, but if you’re Cincinnati and you got Joe Burrow and some other weapons now you lose Tee Higgins, and what have you? That’s a different animal. And I get that.”
“But I think the situation in Cincinnati is different and in the case of CeeDee lamb, you with the Cowboys, y’all have had ample opportunity to step up and show what you can do and that hasn’t happened. I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve his bag, but he doesn’t deserve as much or more than Justin Jefferson, in my opinion.”
The sequence of this story between Lamb and the Dallas organisation should come out in the next few weeks.
