Steelers not a likely suitor for Stafford, per report

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not contacted the Los Angeles Rams about quarterback Matthew Stafford and even if they do, they are not likely to help Stafford out with his current contract demands. This is according to a report by Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, after Pittsburgh’s general manager Omar Khan told the media on Tuesday that the team is still in contact with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

This does not rule out the Steelers as a destination for Stafford, but it does make it seem much more unlikely than it might have appeared on Monday.

Just one day ago, Albert Breer wrote a report saying that the Steelers were among four teams that have “thrown their hat in the ring” for Stafford.

Well, not sure what ring Breer was looking at.

While Dulac is speculating that the Steelers have no interest in meeting Stafford’s reported contract demands of $50 million per season (also still just a rumor), he is making it very clear that Pittsburgh’s GM has had absolutely no contact with Les Snead about the quarterback’s availability and what it would take to complete a trade.

That’s a rumored first round pick, which comes as no surprise really, but the Steelers are never quick to part with draft picks and the Rams are almost certainly going to have a hard time finding a team that wants to give up a first rounder for a player who will be 37 next season.

The Steelers aren’t out of it, but they do not seem to be in it either.
