The Pittsburgh Steelers 90-man roster has been built for some time now.
And despite the team being on summer vacation, GM Omar Khan and the rest of the Steelers brass decided to make a move when they released former second pick and WR Denzel Mims, first reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media.
It could point to an intriguing addition.
Steelers roster now at 89 spots
The obvious addition would be a WR, but multiple positions and players could be added. Here are three prominent free agents at different positions who could fill the newly opened roster spot.
WR Michael Thomas
The best remaining pass catcher on the market, a clear upgrade over what Mims provided, and a player that could potentially fill a glaring need, Thomas is the top potential addition on our list.
I actually quite like the fit of Thomas in Pittsburgh. They need more size at WR, and the veteran wideout would not be thrusted into a role too big for him at this point of his career. They may see him as a nice third WR option behind George Pickens and Roman Wilson, two receivers with different skillsets than Thomas.
Tomlin’s “No BS” approach as head coach would be a blessing in disguise for Thomas, in my opinion, as well. As for any team he joins, they need Thomas to stay healthy. A role like one he would have with the Steelers may aid in that, too.

EDGE Yannick Ngakoue
Ngakoue is still on the right side of 30 and is coming off a season where he played and started in 13 games. He only amassed four sacks and may not be the double-digit guarantee he once was, but pairing him alongside Nick Herbig in the backup pass-rushing unit would only add to what is arguably the best front seven in the league.
Safety Justin Simmons
How Simmons is still on the market is beyond me. We're talking about a player who was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro just last season, single-handedly helping keep the Brocnos defense afloat.
Pittsburgh might feel comfortable with their current crop of safeties, but outside of Minkah Fitzpatrick, there isn't a safety on the roster who can compete with Justin Simmons at his peak.
