Bachelor In Paradise season 10's first episodes have featured an onslaught of changes. While some have been subtle, like the changes to the resort the cast members are staying in, others have been overt, like the arrivals of new cast members into the series. Susie, who Justin dated after her time on The Bachelor season 26, coming into the mix was huge for Justin.
While the pair dated for less than a year, their relationship was meaningful to both of them, and they were on good terms leading up to their time on Bachelor In Paradise. Susie was clear that she didn't want to step on toes when it came to Justin, who was developing something strong with Lexi Young. Unfortunately, Justin didn't get that memo.
During the final moments of Bachelor In Paradise season 10 episode 2, Justin was faced with a tough decision. While he wanted to continue things with Lexi, who'd struggled with how ready he was for a relationship earlier in the episode, he was also understanding that if Susie didn't get a rose, she'd be eliminated. With Susie just arriving, he felt responsible.
Justin tearfully explained that he was choosing Susie because he'd promised in the past that he'd look out for her, and while it was very sweet to his former partner, it was very underwhelming for the woman he'd been pursuing on Paradise. As the rest of the cast stared in disbelief, Justin explained Susie would get the chance to meet someone with more time.
While Justin offered Susie his rose, she was too floored to do anything right away other than gawk at him in disbelief and question his choice. Susie came down to the center pedestal and told Justin she didn't want him to give her his rose, and would prefer that he offer it to Lexi because she knew he wanted to.
Though Justin was clearly torn, it was obvious that he actually did want to offer his rose to Susie over Lexi, who he'd been struggling with. While he wanted to continue on his Paradise journey, he felt rebuffed as Susie left him without taking the rose. Justin tearfully stormed off the set, followed by Susie, then Lexi. The chaos was overwhelming.
Bachelor In Paradise airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC, and will air this Tuesday, July 15, at 8 p.m. EDT.
