Shocking Trade Proposal: Cowboys Set to Swap 2,000-Yard Rusher for ‘Lazy’ RB, Sparking Outrage and Major Backlash

The Dallas Cowboys enter another season with high-hopes and perhaps misplaced trust Jerry Jones and new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer.

But the roster is competent, and the team must likely feel pretty good about almost every position, with the exception of running back.

Rico Dowdle and Jalen Tolbert are the new names to know in the Cowboys' offense - Newsday

Now, the coaches may still be confident in the running back position group, but it is not clear that they should. At this point in their respective careers would any RBs coach feel good about having Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, Deuce Vaughn; or rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah; as their starting tailback heading into a full regular season.

Williams and Sanders have both regressed since their Pro Bowl-caliber peaks a couple of years ago. Blue and Mafah are both late round rookies, and Vaughn has a total of 110 career rushing yards in two seasons with the organization, despite some previous pre-season hype around him.

Schottenheimer and Jones may likely never be able to accept the fact that they do need help at the position – at least not until next offseason. But in this miraculous, hypothetical world of trade suggestions and proposals, they begrudgingly do, and as such trade for Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back, Rachaad White.

Cowboys Trade Proposal Lands Them Bucs Second Stringer

Rachaad White is hardly a groundbreaking, earth-shattering, Saquon Barkley-esque signing that will re-shape the landscape of the NFC East. But he is a good player who has had experience leading a rushing offense within the past two seasons.

In 2023, White managed 990 yards on the ground to go with an impressive 549 yards through the air, along with 9 total touchdowns to make him one of the more lethal RB weapons in the league (and certainly in fantasy football).

After the arrival of the fourth round phenom, also known as Bucky Iriving, in the 2024 NFL Draft, White’s touches and yards dipped dramatically. Irving managed over 1,500 total yards on offense, and now is set to remain RB1 heading into 2025.

White has shown reliable, dual-threat production during his time in the league, with the sole roadblock being the Bucs’ lack of quality depth options beyond 2024 undrafted free agent, Sean Tucker, who broke on to the scene with 136 rushing yards against the New Orleans Saints back in October.

What Role Would White Have In Dallas?

In all likelihood, RB1. Williams and Sanders have not shown much in recent seasons that warrants a compelling case for them to be high-quality starters.

And whilst some of the Cowboys coaches may have privately prayed for Jaydon Blue to come in as the team’s late-round saviour, a recent report from ex Cowboys assistant, Glenn Smith, has critiqued his work ethic – an assertion that Blue himself wholeheartedly rejected.

White would have another chance to establish himself as a high-level starter in the league before his contract expires at the end of the season; the Cowboys get a proven asset at the position; and the Bucs get a potential four-year high-quality backup for Irving.

If the reports are true and the Cowboys are not thinking so highly of Blue, this is a great opportunity for a player that can work as a win-win for both sides.

Dallas Cowboys Receive: Rachaad White, 2026 seventh round pick.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Receive: Jaydon Blue, 2026 sixth round pick.
