Shannon Sharpe hopes Kadarius Toney will 'mature' soon after being cut by the Chiefs

Three-time Super Bowl Champion Shannon Sharpe had some words for Kadarius Toney , who was cut by Kansas City Chiefs earlier this week. Sharpe believes that Toney needs to mature, if he needs to be in this league.

Kadarius Toney Should Mature Now: Shannon Sharpe on Ex Kansas City Star Post Getting Cut - The SportsRush

Toney found himself out of the 53-men roster Kansas City put out after disappointing seasons. Furthermore, the Chiefs, having an abundance of wide receivers , do not have an opening for the 25-year-old anymore. However, the Chiefs are thankful for his service, with GM Brett Veach stating that he would do the trade for Toney all over again.

Speaking on the “NightCap” podcast with Chad Johnson, Sharpe believes that NFL is a different ball game, it’s not college football. One has to mature and grow into an adult once they transfer to a more professional set-up. Sharpe argued that Toney hasn’t matured and it’s high time he matures into an all-round player.

I just hope he matures. We all don’t mature at the age of 21 but I hope he does because this is an opportunity you waited a lifetime to be in this position. He just needs to understand that he’s got to grow up. Shannon Sharpe said via NightCap podcast

Sharpe adds that a team like Kansas City Chiefs expects a certain playing level for the exorbitant money they are paying. The ex-Broncos player also made a statement on his future: Toney will get to play only because he is a first round pick.

Toney joined the Chiefs in the mid-season of 2022 from New York Giants, playing one season for them. The WR made instant success for the Missouri based outfit with a tremendous punt-return in the Super Bowl final against Philadelphia Eagles. The 2023 season didn’t fare well for him though, after injuries and missed catches, he was cut from the starting team and eventually leading to no show in roster.

What’s next for Kadarius Toney?

USA Today’s Cory Woodroof pushed Las Vegas Raiders to take in Toney. He adds that Toney should not be traded from AFC West and given a chance to prove the Chiefs wrong. Woodroof also said that Toney could even factor in as a great offensive player for the Chiefs.

The 25-year-old is still a former first round pick and that comes with an expectation. This could either make or break his career. His options are wide. However, there will be a long way to go for the young WR. He has potential left unlocked. In short words, he could mature as a person as well.

In all of his career, Toney was run amok by injuries left and right. Being away from spotlight means he can work on his body, get his body back to shape. The Chiefs GM also added his two cents on this. He believes that Toney could eventually get back to the league if he works on his body and think about his mistakes.
