“Several Teams” Have Shown Interest in Heat Forward: Report

Andrew Wiggins landed with the Miami Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler trade with the Golden State Warriors. At his best, Wiggins, 30, is one of the most reliable three-and-d forwards in the entire NBA.

NBA Insider Reports "Several Teams Expressed Interest" In Miami Heat Star

Still, that didn’t stop the Heat from exploring their potential trade options with the 2022 champion this summer. According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, “several” teams around the NBA expressed interest in acquiring Wiggins during the early stages of the offseason.

“This offseason, the Miami Heat were willing to discuss trade scenarios involving Andrew Wiggins, and several teams expressed interest in the former NBA champion and All-Star wing, sources said,” Siegel wrote. “The Milwaukee Bucks, league sources said, were one of the teams to inquire about Wiggins.”

Siegel continued.

“While the Heat ultimately kept the former first overall pick, they were willing to deal Wiggins if they received an instant impact player, along with an upcoming first-round pick before 2028. Teams continue to monitor the Heat, specifically how they will handle Tyler Herro’s upcoming extension window, to get a better idea of what direction they are trending in.”

Wiggins could still become a trade chip for Miami. The trade deadline won’t close until Feb. 5, 2026. Therefore, Pat Riley will likely keep his ear to the ground in hopes of a star-level talent shaking loose once the season begins.

Wiggins Could Become Key to Heat’s Rotation

After landing with the Heat, Wiggins only suited up for 17 regular-season games. In those outings, he averaged 19 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He shot 45.8% from the field and 36% from deep.

Without a star to lead the team’s scoring efforts, the Heat will need a collective of reliable bucket-getters. Wiggins can help fill some of that need, especially next to Tyler Herro and Norman Powell.

Furthermore, his ability to guard multiple positions and pick up the opposing team’s best player will be a key ingredient in Erik Spoelstra’s roster construction. If Miami sticks with him this season, Wiggins could have a significant impact.

Heat Forward Drawing Interest From Europe

While Wiggins’s future will undoubtedly be an open topic in the coming months, it would appear that Simone Fontecchio could also be on the move.

According to Niko Yenibayrak of Sports Digitale, the Heat could choose to waive Fontecchio. If Miami did choose to part with the 29-year-old forward, it would likely be to duck under the luxury tax.  Turkish team Fenerbahce is reportedly monitoring the situation.

“Simone Fontecchio may be waived by the Miami Heat,” Yenibayrak reported via X, with the post being translated. “The Heat are considering waiving the player to avoid the luxury tax. Fenerbahçe Beko is closely monitoring the situation of the Italian star, whose potential return to Europe is emerging.”

Miami has multiple players it can dangle in a trade discussion. Whether or not those players are enough to entice a team to the negotiating table will remain to be seen. But, right now, it would seem entirely possible that Miami makes another move to strengthen the roster, either during the summer or later in the season.
