Seattle Seahawks running back expected to return Monday night against the Detroit Lions

The Seattle Seahawks will likely get a key player on the offense back on the field.

Running back Kenneth Walker III, who has missed the past two games with a oblique injury, had no designation on the team’s injury report and will play Monday night when the Seahawks face the Detroit Lions in a Week 4 game.

“He looked good,” Seattle coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Saturday. “He’s ready to go.”

The Seahawks (3-0) will be happy to have Walker back in the lineup to bolster their rushing attack against the Lions, who are ranked fourth in the NFL in rushing defense, allowing 76.7 yards per game.

Walker ran for 103 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry against the Broncos, giving the Seahawks a serious threat in the backfield and taking pressure off quarterback Geno Smith. Zach Charbonnet started in the past two games in Walker’s absence, and he ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s 24-3 Week 3 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Macdonald said having both Walker and Charbonnet available against the Lions is the scenario he envisioned at the beginning of the regular season.

“It’s kind of the duo that you’ve had all offseason and how you’ve envisioned our offense operating,” Macdonald told reporters Saturday. “We’re kind of back to business as usual that we’ve before the last couple of weeks.”
