Seattle Seahawks projected to be in bad shape in salary cap space for 2025 NFL season

The NFL just announced that they will not be making an official salary cap projection for the 2025 season. However, they do estimate that it will fall somewhere between $265-$275 million. What does it mean for the Seattle Seahawks? The short answer is it's not good.Seattle Seahawks projected to be in bad shape in salary cap space for 2025 NFL season image

According to the latest projection from Over the Cap, teams will have $272.5 million to spend next year, which falls in the league's estimated window. Assuming that figure is correct, that would put Seattle somewhere around $6 million in the red. Only the Cleveland Browns (-$15.37 million) and the New Orleans Saints (-$62.8 million) are in worse shape right now.

However, the real number is actually even lower for the Seahawks. That official -$6 million doesn't account for what it will cost to sign their 2025 rookie class. If we include that, then Seattle actually has an effective cap space of about -$14.77 million at the moment.

That figure is obviously not ideal, but Seahawks general manager John Schneider has plenty of moves he can make to create more room. To name a few, they can save $25 million by cutting Geno Smith and $17 million more by cutting Tyler Lockett. A contract extension for DK Metcalf could save up to $13.46 million and a restructure for Leonard Williams could free up another $9.37 million.
