Seattle Seahawks Clear Major Cap Space Restructuring Star Player’s Deal

NFL teams have gotten down to the business of creating cap space with Week 1 of the regular season in the rearview mirror, including the Seattle Seahawks.

Tuesday, according to multiple reports, the Seahawks and star wide receiver DK Metcalf agreed to a contract restructure that clears $9.5 million in cap space for the 2024 season.

Inside Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf’s New Deal

As Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap points out, the Seahawks converted $11.875 million of Metcalf’s salary into a signing bonus. Following the move, the Seahawks now have upwards of $13.24 million in cap space for this season, which allows them the flexibility to add free agents should players get injured and make adjustments throughout the course of the season.

Metcalf, 26, is a prolific matchup nightmare for opposing defensive backs, but was held to three catches for 29 yards against the Denver Broncos in Seattle’s season-opening 26-20 victory.

After his deal was reworked, Metcalf will now count $15 million against the cap this season and approximately $31.8 million in 2025.

As Metcalf begins the sixth season of his NFL career, Metcalf has logged 375 receptions for 5,361 yards with 43 touchdowns, while averaging 14.3 yards per reception.
