The Denver Broncos feel like they have their young quarterback of the future in place with Bo Nix at the controls. He had an outstanding rookie season. The team is now tasked with surrounding him with what he needs to excel, with the partnership between head coach Sean Payton and Nix being at the center of the team's future plans.
At the owners' meetings, Payton was asked how he would go about challenging a quarterback in an offense after many seasons together, such as with Bills head coach Sean McDermott and NFL MVP Josh Allen.
“I think sometimes that takes place organically relative to your installation," Payton said. "When you’re bringing an offense that’s been together, head coach, quarterback, I think you’re always looking at tweaking. [Bills Offensive Coordinator] Joe [Brady] and [Bills Offensive Line Coach] Aaron [Kromer] and those guys working there, I’m sure will stay on top of additions that they think will suit him [Bills QB Josh Allen]."
Payton has plenty of experience being a part of a dynamic head coach/quarterback duo from his time with the Saints, partnered with Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. He knows how to tailor an offense to a quarterback, providing the former Oregon quarterback with every opportunity to continue to excel in the NFL.
I’ve followed [Bills Head Coach] Sean [McDermott]’s career. We’ve paralleled each other for the most part. He’ll be creative in ways that appeal to Josh. And again, they’re about winning. I’m sure they feel like we do: ‘There’s more meat on the bone here. We have to get better.’ I think that will naturally happen.
The Broncos feel as though they have just scratched the surface of what they can be. Based on their offseason moves and the expectation that they will attempt to get Nix some more weapons in the 2025 NFL Draft, it's fair to expect them to be a playoff threat moving forward.
