The Seattle Seahawks quarterback room is in a decent spot, after selecting Jalen Milroe and signing Sam Darnold during the offseason. However, some have still questioned what the Seahawks’ outlook will be during the remainder of the offseason, with questions surrounding Milroe and Darnold.
Darnold is the starter unless something drastic changes.
When searching for potential ways to improve their quarterback room, AOL.com recently proposed the idea of trading for Tennessee Titans starter Will Levis, who many believe could be available.
While they made a mistake and noted that the Seahawks don’t have much depth behind Geno Smith, Smith ended up with the Las Vegas Raiders, and this was likely just a minor error, given their initial prediction of Levis going to the Seahawks.
“If the Titans are all-in on Cam Ward, Levis becomes expendable. Seattle’s QB depth behind Geno Smith is thin, and Levis fits the mold as a developmental backup with upside. Tennessee could recoup a mid-round pick and fully reset at quarterback,” they wrote.
Does Levis Have a Chance To Start in Tennessee?
Levis understands that he’s in trade rumors, as the Tennessee Titans had the first overall pick and selected Cam Ward. However, according to a report, the Titans haven’t given Ward the keys to the QB1 position yet.
For Levis and the Titans, this could mean that trading him to the Seattle Seahawks doesn’t make much sense, if it’s true.
“Titans coach Brian Callahan is adamant that Ward won’t have the starting job handed to him and that Ward, Levis, Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle are all competing with each other. But, let’s face it: The Titans didn’t use the No. 1 pick in the draft, turning down a ransom of future draft picks along the way, to sit Ward long term. Any and all future cologne marketing offers will be directed toward Ward, not Levis.
“Nevertheless, Levis is still here. And he’s still working. Hard. No one drenched their jersey with more sweat than Levis during the Titans’ second OTA practice. He sprinted from drill to drill. He played like and handled himself as a quarterback with something to prove,” the Tennesseean wrote.
Darnold Still Has Room for Improvement
Darnold had an impressive season last year for the Minnesota Vikings, and the hope is that he’ll continue to improve with the Seattle Seahawks.
During the 2024 campaign, he led the Vikings to one of their best seasons in a long time, throwing for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
However, at the end of the year, and especially in the playoffs, some of Darnold’s flaws continued to show.
Whether that was due to his below-average offensive line or Darnold simply keeping the football in his hands for longer than he should’ve, or for any other reason, it could become a potential issue for the Seahawks.
When speaking with reporters after he signed with the Seahawks, he admitted that it’s something he needs to work on, and that he’s looking forward to doing so during the offseason and the regular season.
“I think being able to get the ball out a little bit quicker … and even if a guy is covered, even if my back’s covered on a checkdown, just throwing it at his feet,” he said, per ESPN. “I feel like I was taking some unnecessary sacks last year, especially those last few games.”
