The Seahawks' signing of Cooper Kupp on Friday evening has so many layers to it.
There's the fact that new Seattle QB Sam Darnold gets another weapon. There's the intra-division transfer of talent from the Rams to the Seahawks. There's the homecoming for Kupp.
And then there's this, which is both obvious but also notable: The Seahawks no longer have to play against a guy who has absolutely dominated them statistically in their matchups.
Of course it makes sense that Kupp would have the best counting stats against a divisional foe since they play twice a year, but check out these numbers.
Kupp has been healthy and on the field for 12 games against the Seahawks in his career. The Rams went 9-3 in those contests, and Kupp totaled 70 catches for 815 yards and five touchdowns.
If those numbers were extrapolated to 17 games, Kupp's projected pace against just the Seahawks would him at 99 catches for 1,155 yards.
Now his job will be to torch the Rams secondary he previously only ever saw in practice.
The former Super Bowl MVP joins forces with new acquisitions like Darnold and DeMarcus Lawrence looking to make it back to the big game.
Lawrence recently said that he left Dallas because they "couldn't win a Super Bowl there." Now with Kupp in tow, the Seahawks will be hoping that Lawrence's implication of Super Bowl contention in Seattle is accurate.
