Seahawks right guard competition ramps up after Christian Haynes gets first-team duties

Will it be Haynes or Anthony Bradford as the starting right guard come Week 1?

The Seattle Seahawks most likely have four of the five spots on the starting offensive line sorted out, but there’s still very much a competition brewing at right guard.

Second-year guard Anthony Bradford has had the majority of snaps in training camp and started in Seattle’s preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, but third-round rookie Christian Haynes is still in contention.

Haynes took first-team snaps in Thursday’s joint practice with the Tennessee Titans, while Bradford worked with the backups.

Haynes had seen some first-team action in training camp at left guard in place of Laken Tomlinson during veteran rest days, but otherwise started behind both Bradford and McClendon Curtis earlier in the offseason. Curtis has since moved out to right tackle, so Haynes is inching close to potentially being a Day 1 starter.

Haynes played both left and right guard against the Los Angeles Chargers, recording only one pressure in 20 pass-blocking snaps. With the Seahawks not intending to play starters on Saturday, it’s more than likely that Haynes will get an extended run of game time to further his case to win the job.

Speaking of competitions, it’s looking like the running back battle between George Holani and Kenny McIntosh is not necessarily in Holani’s favor. Holani might have taken first-team reps on Wednesday, but Thursday was McIntosh’s turn. This is one that might come down to the wire for RB3.

All the more reason to tune in for the final two preseason games to see who wins out in these roster battles!
