The Seattle Seahawks have officially ended minicamp practices, and the mood is high given the team’s perfect attendance. There is one exception to this positivity as one of the Seahawks star playmakers is dealing with an injury.
The good news is the NFL season is still more than two months away, providing plenty of time for the star’s recovery. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that running back Ken Walker III has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
It is concerning given Walker is one of Seattle’s most important offensive weapons. Yet, the early signs are that Walker’s injury is not anything major, per Macdonald.
“Yeah, he’s working through an ankle, but he should be fine,” Macdonald explained in a June 10, 2025, press conference.
Walker’s status is worth monitoring given the running back’s recent injury history. The playmaker is coming off the most challenging of his three-year NFL career as Walker missed six games in 2024. Walker posted 153 carries for 573 rushing yards and seven touchdowns during 11 appearances last season.
Kenneth Walker touched the ball 199 times last season.

Here’s what you need to know about Walker and the Seahawks offense with training camp a little more than one month away.
Why Seahawks Fans Can Breathe Easy About Ken Walker’s Injury
The good news for Seattle is the franchise has some insurance behind Walker, just in case the running back is forced to miss time again this season. Zach Charbonnet headlines the group of running backs behind Walker and filled in admirably for the starting running back in 2024.
Are you IN or OUT on Ken Walker this season?
He’s had injuries in all three seasons. Last year missing 6 games. Do you think he can bounce back and stay healthy?
Seattle also selected former Miami Hurricanes running back Damien Martinez in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft. If Martinez is able to make the final roster, the rookie would join Kenny McIntosh as additional insurance for the Seahawks behind Walker and Charbonnet.
The Seahawks Offense Will Look Different for Ken Walker & Others With New OC Klint Kubiak
Seattle’s offense is expected to look different in 2025 after the team fired Ryan Grubb this offseason and hired Klint Kubiak as the new offensive coordinator. Macdonald remained noncommittal when asked about the role of the team’s rushing attack in the new offense.
“I haven’t looked at it through the lens of, hey, our defense is going to go dominate games,” Macdonald explained. “No, it’s just, they’re going to play our style of football. You know, the Seahawk style of ball that we’re trying to create. And (talking) about like methods and principles about how we operate, I mean, this is just a different method.
“This system, it’s a tried and true system. They’re coaching the heck out of it that they believe in, and it’ll come to life the way that we want to. It’s going to be unique to us, which is exciting, and that’s the process that we’re in right now.”
Walker should be highly motivated to thrive in this new offensive system. The Seahawks running back is heading into the final season of his four-year, $8.4 million contract. Walker is slated to be a free agent in 2026 and will be looking to solidify his earning potential with a bounce-back season.
