Re-drafts can be fun projects for anyone. The debate over whether a team should have taken one player over another can be endless. There are also no wrong answers because the fan's theory can never be proven false. But Bleacher Report has an interesting idea for the Seattle Seahawks.
B/R's idea was not to do a single year of a re-draft, but mix five years into one. This gives the site a lot of non-franchise tagged players to choose from while also applying those prospects to the current team's coaching staff.
The Seahawks might need a different kind of player under Pete Carroll than Mike Macdonald, for instance.
Bleacher Report's five-year re-draft has the Seahawks taking a perfect player for Mike Macdonald
This is why Bleacher Report's pick at number 20 for Seattle makes so much sense. Whereas Carroll, who was in charge of all roster moves during his time with the team, might have taken a running back (that is not meant to be a joke; Seattle chose Rasheed Penny in the first round in 2018), general manager John Schneider might choose a defensive player.
Schneider is now fully in charge of all roster moves, not Macdonald, but he also wants to add players that augment Macdonald's defensive system. Why not go with a player who, in reality, has done well under Macdonald?
At pick 20, Seattle would take safety Kyle Hamilton. Hamilton played under Macdonald for two seasons when Seattle's head coach was the defensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens. In Hamilton's second season, he was named First-Team All-Pro. He had a quarterback rating allowed of only 38.4 that season.
Hamilton was a first-round pick in 2022, and he is likely going to be with the Ravens for a very long time. The Seahawks might have taken a player close to Hamilton's abilities in 2025, though.
Hamilton is 6'4" and 220 pounds with great coverage skills and speed. Nick Emmanwori, a second-round choice for the Seahawks this year, is the same weight and just one inch shorter. He also seemingly has great coverage skills.
Macdonald has a proven track record of getting safeties to play at an elite level. Rookie seasons are difficult for most players, though, and while Hamilton was good as a rookie, he became special in year two. The same could happen for Emmanwori.
If he doesn't get many starts in 2025, as the Seahawks have Julian Love and Coby Bryant as the presumed starters, Emmanwori could step in full-time in 2026 and have a massive impact. Expecting him to be as good as Hamilton might be a stretch, but he could come close, and that is good enough.
