Seahawks Pushed to Land Former $49 Million 5-Time Pro Bowler in Final Move

The Seattle Seahawks made a significant shift at several positions this offseason following a series of significant roster moves. NFL rumors are winding down with training camp a little more than one month away from starting, but there is still time to make a few late additions.

John Schneider

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox created a final to-do list for every NFL team. Seahawks fans may be tired of hearing this, but the analyst once again suggested a late addition to the offensive line. One option for the Seahawks is to sign five-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff.

“Seattle’s interior offensive line was arguably the worst in the NFL last season,” Knox wrote in a June 17, 2025, story titled, “Every NFL Team’s To-Do List for Rest of the 2025 Offseason.” “While the Seahawks used a first-round pick on left guard Grey Zabel, there’s still some uncertainty at right guard and center, especially after center Connor Williams retired midway through the 2024 season.

“… While the free-agent market isn’t loaded with starting-caliber talent, Seattle should consider bringing in players like guard Brandon Scherff and center Nick Harris for additional camp competition.”

Potential Seahawks Target Brandon Scherff Has Played Every Game for 3 Straight NFL Seasons

As Scherff’s unsigned status indicates, the NFL may believe the guard’s days as a Pro Bowler are over. Scherff has been remarkably durable in recent years playing in all 17 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars for three straight seasons.

The challenge is Scherff has not made the Pro Bowl since 2021 after earning the honor for three straight years at the end of his tenure with the Washington Commanders.

Pro Football Focus gave Scherff a 64.7 grade (out of 100) for 2024, with the guard being dinged for his play in the run game. Scherff earned a 74.5 for pass protection, but a much lower 57.3 for his results in Jacksonville’s rushing attack.

Brandon Scherff Was on a 3-Year, $49.5 Million Contract With the Jaguars

Seattle still makes some sense as Scherff’s price tag is likely low, especially with the veteran remaining unsigned. Scherff’s days landing a three-year, $49.5 million contract are likely over. The Seahawks could look to sign Scherff to a one-year, prove-it deal.

Spotrac estimates Scherff’s market value is a one-year, $6.6 million contract. This number could be even lower as training camp approaches.

The Seahawks Remain Optimistic That Rookie Grey Zabel Can Make an Immediate Impact in 2025

Seattle did bolster the team’s interior offensive line by selecting Grey Zabel with the No. 18 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald sounds optimistic that Scherff can make an immediate impact during his rookie season.

“Really excited about Grey,” Macdonald said on June 11, per Sports Illustrated. “He’s what we thought he was up to this point, I mean, he’s going to be that … [He has a] certain intentionality, going through the drills, hitting his spots, communicating, being decisive with Charles [Cross] on the left side.

“I think those guys are working really well together, so really fired up to see him in the fall — the great competition, the one-on-ones, getting the pads on, it’s going to be a lot of fun to [see] him compete with the D-line.”
