The Seattle Seahawks have options in the 2025 NFL Draft after addressing the void at quarterback with Pro Bowl passer Sam Darnold.
Darnold posted a career year with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024. The former No. 3 overall pick completed 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards with 35 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
It's a changing of the guard for the Seahawks after trading starter Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders.
It remains to be seen, though, if Darnold is the long-term answer. He signed a three-year, $100.5 million deal that gives Seattle an option after one season.
With attention turned to this year's draft, NFL.com's Chad Reuter projects the Seahawks to select a passer in the second round, seemingly adding some competition that could push Darnold for the starting role.
In this scenario, the Seahawks draft Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka at No. 18 overall before taking Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers with the No. 35 pick in Round 2.
Ewers (6-foot-2, 214 pounds) led the Longhorns in back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances in his three seasons at Texas. The former Ohio State signal-caller completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,472 yards with 31 touchdowns to 12 interceptions as a senior in 2024.
Ewers, a former five-star recruit out of Southlake, Texas, amassed 9,128 career passing yards with 68 touchdowns and 24 interceptions for the Longhorns. He also added eight rushing touchdowns.
Competition is not unfamiliar for Ewers, who beat out five-star phenom Arch Manning for the starting nod at Texas. Darnold would have the leg up in Seattle, but an option like Ewers on a rookie deal is an intriguing play.
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
