In their first season under new head coach Mike Macdonald, the Seattle Seahawks went 10-7 and finished in second place in the NFC West, and while that wasn't enough to clinch a playoff spot, it was an improvement over their 9-8, third-place finish the year prior.
This offseason, Seattle has made a ton of changes to their roster, including sending out wide receiver D.K. Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. They also signed the top quarterback on the free-agent market, inking Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million deal.
However, the biggest issue that the Seahawks entered this offseason with has yet to been addressed, and that's their offensive line.
In 2024, Seattle allowed Smith and Sam Howell to be sacked on 8.35% of their dropbacks, which was the ninth-highest rate in football. They also rushed for just 95.7 yards per game, the fifth-lowest average in the NFL.
Now, after losing Laken Tomlinson and Stone Forsythe to the Houston Texans and New York Giants, respectively, the offensive line issue is even more serious for the Seahawks.
That's why Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently predicted that Seattle will send a package of three picks (a 2025 first, a 2025 third and a 2025 fifth) to the Atlanta Falcons for the 15th overall pick. With that pick, Knox believes the Seahawks will take an offensive tackle, which as he notes, will likely be either Kelvin Banks Jr. or Tyler Booker.
Banks, 21 played high school football at Summer Creek High School in Houston, Texas, before committing to the University of Texas for the 2022 season. In his three seasons with the Longhorns, he started 42 games and earned All-Conference honors three times and All-American honors twice.
Booker, 21, played at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, committing to the University of Alabama for the 2022 season. In his three years with the Crimson Tide, he started 27 games (played in 39) and earned All-SEC honors twice and All-American honors once.
Either would be great options for the Seahawks, who need to find someone to protect Darnold and help provide running lanes for Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet.
Giving up two extra picks may feel like a lot to move up just three spots, but with offensive tackle being a premium position in the NFL, going up to get their guy might be worth it.
