Seahawks predicted to replace Cooper Kupp with 14-touchdown wide receiver

D.K. Metcalf 2024 Player Profile | Reception Perception

The Seattle Seahawks made sweeping changes to their offense this offseason, from replacing their offensive coordinator after just one year to trading away their quarterback and star wide receiver to the AFC.

All of this was done in an effort to give Mike Macdonald's team the best chance to succeed going forward after a solid first season that saw them finish second in the NFC West with a 10-7 record.

Along with trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle made other moves in the wide receiver room, releasing Tyler Lockett (who eventually signed with the Tennessee Titans) and bringing in Cooper Kupp, Steven Sims and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

At 31 years old, Kupp is the elder statesman in the Seahawks wideout group, and while he's on a new three-year, $45 million contract, general manager John Schneider would be smart to start looking for his replacement sooner than later.

Interestingly, NFL writer Matty Kiwoom recently predicted that Seattle will do just that and take wide receiver Jordyn Tyson in the first round (No. 15 overall) in the 2026 NFL draft.

"If Cooper Kupp can’t stay healthy, Sam Darnold and the Seahawks are going to NEED help at the WR position. Jordyn Tyson checks a lot of boxes and has the skills to be the first pass catcher off the board in 2026," Kiwoom wrote.

Tyson, the brother of Cleveland Cavaliers wing Jaylon Tyson, was a three-star prospect who played high school football at Allen High School in Allen, Texas and Independence High School in Frisco, Texas.

In 2021, Tyson committed to the University of Colorado and in his first season, he caught 22 passes for 470 yards and four touchdowns in nine games.

However, with Deion Sanders taking over as the team's head coach in 2023, Tyson transferred to Arizona State and was sidelined for most of the year due to injury.

Last year, Tyson earned All-Big 12 honors, appearing in 12 games and recording 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 scores.

While there's obviously another year of football between now and the 2026 draft, if Tyson replicates his performance from this past season, he'll be in contention for the top wide receiver taken next year. And, a combination of Tyson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba could make things easier for Darnold after he saw success with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison as his primary targets in Minnesota in 2024.
