The Seattle Seahawks parted ways this offseason with two of their top three wide receivers from last year but have wasted little time revamping the position group.
Seattle added former Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Cooper Kupp to the fold on a $45 million deal to complement arguably the NFL's top slot receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is heading into his third year with the team in 2025.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report predicted on Wednesday, April 2, that the Seahawks' next upgrade to the position group will involve signing wideout Amari Cooper out of free agency.
"The five-time Pro Bowler is still just 30 and went over 1,200 yards for Cleveland in 2023," Gagnon wrote. "Seattle now has money to spend and the need for an X or Z receiver like Cooper to work with Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba."
Cooper played out the final year of his $100 million contract as a member of the Buffalo Bills in 2024, helping the team reach the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Spotrac projects his market value at approximately $19 million annually over a new two-year deal ($38 million total).
Adding Cooper alongside Kupp is something of a risky move, especially on a multiyear deal, given each man's age (both are on the wrong side of 30 years old) and relative injury history.
However, Seattle took a swing by trading quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick and then inking Sam Darnold to a nine-figure deal in free agency. The Seahawks must put together a competent cast of skill position players around Darnold if they hope to recapture the success he found with a stacked Minnesota Vikings offense in 2024.
Cooper has tallied 711 receptions for 10,033 receiving yards and 64 touchdowns over the course of his 10-year NFL career, which has included stops with the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders (then Oakland), Cleveland Browns and Bills.
