The Seattle Seahawks made one roster move on Tuesday, and it may be a positive sign about the team’s otherwise undermanned cornerback situation.
Who was released?
Eric Garror was let go from the practice squad, having been signed last week when the Seahawks reshuffled both the active roster and practice squad due to injuries. Garror, who spent his rookie year with the Tennessee Titans, was not called up for the Seahawks’ 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Who will replace Garror on the practice squad?
That remains to be seen. Keep in mind that safety Jerrick Reed II is entering this second week of practice and could be activated from the PUP list this week, which would mean someone from the 53-man roster would have to be waived. If that happens, we could see a waived player get put on the practice squad (assuming they clear waivers).
What is the status of the Seahawks’ injured cornerbacks?
Riq Woolen missed the last two games due to an ankle injury, while Brown missed the Falcons game with his own ankle injury. It seems as if with Wednesday practice looming, Riq has a better shot to return to practice than Brown.
“Riq [Woolen] we’re shooting for having him in some capacity on Wednesday,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said on Monday. “Tre [Brown] right now, I’m not sure about his availability on Wednesday.”
Having Woolen back would be enough to ease some concerns about the cornerback position, as it would give the Seahawks their top two options again in Woolen and Devon Witherspoon. Nehemiah Pritchett filled in for Brown and would likely start again if Brown remains out.
The Seahawks did promote Josh Jobe and Faion Hicks for the Falcons game, with Jobe playing well in his Seattle debut. They can both be elevated a maximum of two more times before they must be signed to the active roster to play again.
Who’s on the Seahawks practice squad?
This is accurate as of Oct. 22. Seattle has an International Pathway Player exemption, which permits the team to carry a 17-man practice squad instead of the maximum 16.
