A franchise altering move made by the Seahawks is being applauded and labeled their best move of the offseason so far

I don't know if any NFL team has had a more eventful offseason than the Seattle Seahawks.

A team that fell just short of the postseason in 2024 has completely reshaped their offense. The moves they made to get to this point have fans split on whether the team has improved this offseason. But a recent A to Z Sports article decided one franchise altering move stands out above the rest as the Seahawks' best move of the offseason so far.

The Seahawks' signing of Sam Darnold was named their best move of the 2025 offseason

"This one is easy and it's the addition of Sam Darnold. In a vacuum, it's a good deal and well-deserved after an incredible year, no matter how it ended.

Unfortunately, it's going to ultimately hinge on what the Seahawks put around him. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are both gone and the offensive line is largely a question mark.

The deal is similar to Baker Mayfield's after similar seasons, but Mayfield had/has much better infrastructure in place around him. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the long run, but for now, it's a good move."

Flipping Geno Smith for Sam Darnold was one of the biggest shocks of the NFL offseason. Only time will tell if the team made the right decision picking Darnold long-term over their quarterback of recent years, Smith.

In terms of last year alone, Darnold appeared to be the better quarterback, but the Seahawks don't have a Justin Jefferson sitting around. The team is high on Jaxson Smith-Njigba, and they are hoping the addition of Cooper Kupp will help the wide receiver room not take a step back after trading away D.K. Metcalf and releasing Tyler Lockett.

If the Seahawks get the 2024 version of Darnold that won the NFL's Most Improved Player award and was named to his first Pro Bowl, they will be feeling pretty good about this decision going forward. And while he's been in the NFL for a while now, Darnold is only 27 years old. So if he works out in Seattle, they very well could have found their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.
