Congratulations to our guy Shaquill Griffin on agreeing to terms with the Seattle Seahawks! #BeExclusive
NFL free agency negotiations kicked off on March 10, 2025, and more than three months later the Seattle Seahawks made a move for a former Pro Bowl. Seattle is reuniting with a familiar face in what will likely be a unanimously approved move among the 12s.
The Seahawks signed veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin to a one-year deal, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Seattle landed the team’s longtime starting corner with less than a month to go before training camp begins. The news was also announced by Griffin’s agency Exclusive Sports.

“Sources: Former Pro Bowl CB Shaquill Griffin is signing with the Seahawks,” Schultz said in a series of X messages on June 25. “Griffin had 2 INTs and 6 PBUs for the Vikings last season. Shaquill Griffin began his career with the Seahawks after being drafted in the 3rd round, playing four seasons with the team and making a Pro Bowl. Now he is back and returning to Seattle.”
Here is what you need to know about the Seahawks’ latest move.
Seattle selected Griffin in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft following a standout college career at UCF. Griffin spent his first four NFL seasons with the Seahawks, making 53 starts during his tenure. Fans may remember Griffin was also teammates with his twin brother Shaquem Griffin during part of his time in the Pacific Northwest.
Seahawks cutting Shaquem Griffin is a bummer but it’s still very cool that he and Shaquill were able to be teammates at every level from Pop Warner to the NFL. One of our favorite plays from last season. 👇
The corner made his lone Pro Bowl with Seattle in 2019. Griffin’s time with the Seahawks came to an end in 2021 when the defender signed a lucrative three-year, $40 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Since Griffin’s time with the Jaguars came to an end in 2022, the corner has been a bit of a journeyman. Griffin had short stints with the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers in 2023.
Most recently, Griffin played in all 17 games for the Minnesota Vikings last season. The Seahawks landed Griffin on a team-friendly deal that could be worth up to $4 million in 2025, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
“Veteran corner Shaq Griffin is signing a one-year, $3M deal with Seattle worth up to $4M, per source,” Fowler remarked on X. “Sides have been talking through offseason, now reach deal.”
It remains to be seen if Griffin can once again emerge as a starting NFL cornerback. Griffin joins a Seahawks cornerback group led by Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen and Josh Jobe. Seattle Sports’ Michael Bumpus believes Griffin could challenge Jobe for the team’s nickel cornerback role.
“It’s not something that moves the needle very much, but it’s a trustworthy veteran,” the analyst noted on a June 25, episode of “Bump and Stacy.” “And I think moves like this just add some depth, you get some experience in that room and you provide some competition for Josh Jobe. So it’s a good move.”
It will be worth watching to see if more moves are on the way before Seattle begins training camp on July 22. Rookies are able to report one week earlier on July 15 as the second year of the Mike Macdonald era gets underway.
