Seahawks Land Former 1,200-Yard Running Back Amid Ken Walker’s Injury

The Seattle Seahawks made a series of roster moves at running back with star playmaker Ken Walker dealing with an injury. Walker is recovering from a foot injury which has sidelined him during recent training camp practices.

“Third straight practice of Kenneth Walker resting what coach Mike Macdonald Saturday called soreness in his foot,” The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell detailed in an August, 4, 2025, message on X. “Zach Charbonnet the fill-in lead back again for 11th practice of Seahawks training camp.”

The Seahawks announced the signing of rookie running back Anthony Tyus to provide some added depth at the position. Here’s what you need to know about the latest Seahawks’ roster moves.

The Seahawks Cut Ties With RB Donovan Kaufman Just 1 Week After Signing

Seattle cut ties with running back Donovan Kaufman just one week after the team signed the playmaker. The move made room for the Seahawks to sign Tyus and give the rookie an opportunity to earn a roster spot.

Tyus is coming off a strong senior season at Ohio posting 237 carries for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024.

The running back also added 16 catches for 137 receiving yards and two TDs through the air. Prior to joining Ohio, Tyus played three seasons in the Big Ten at Northwestern.

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald on RB Ken Walker’s Injury: ‘We’re Just Taking Care of Him Right Now Throughout Camp’

In addition to Walker’s injury, the Seahawks recently placed Kenny McIntosh on injured reserve after the running back sustained a knee injury during training camp. Head coach Mike Macdonald indicated that Walker’s injury is not serious, but the running back’s recent health history makes it concerning for fans.

“Just a little soreness with his foot right now, but he’s fine,” Macdonald noted on August 2, per Seahawks.com’s John Boyle. “We’re just taking care of him right now throughout camp.”

Here’s What the Seahawks Can Expect From New RB Anthony Tyus

Prior to joining the Seahawks, Tyus had a brief stint as an undrafted free agent for the Detroit Lions. Here is how James Jimenez of SB Nation’s Hustle Belt described Tyus’ NFL outlook.

“Tyus was a critical contributor to the Bobcats offense in 2024 after transferring in from Northwestern, toting the rock 237 times to collect 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, with an additional 137 receiving yards and a score,” Jimenez wrote in an April 10, story titled, “2025 NFL Draft Pro Day Prospect Report: Ohio Bobcats.”

“It was a sterling campaign for the former depth option, who played in 12 games over three seasons for the Wildcats, as his efforts were key to propelling Ohio’s offense over the top to earn the MAC title. His individual efforts were rewarded with placement on the all-MAC second-team roster.”

Walker’s injury is of concern given the running back was sidelined for six games during the 2024 season. The star also dealt with injuries during the offseason which kept Walker out of practices. One name to watch is rookie Damien Martinez, whose role could expand if Walker’s injury turns into something more serious.
