There will be a few dozen players who will participate in Seahawks rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.
Typically, a couple end up signing contracts as undrafted free agents, and through the years, a few who attended on a tryout basis have forged careers.
One notable example for the Seahawks is former rush end Benson Mayowa, who signed after attending minicamp in 2013 as a tryout player and played in two games that season and 115 in his career.
One interesting name among the list of reported tryout players is Joey Hobert of Texas State, the son of former UW quarterback Billy Joe Hobert.
Joey Hobert began his college career with two seasons at Washington State in 2020 and 2021 before spending one year at Utah Tech and moving to Texas State, where he caught 146 passes for 1,575 yards and 16 touchdowns the past two years.
Listed at 5-foot-11, 189 pounds, Hobert was an All-Sun Belt second-team pick each of the past two years and has eight receptions for 47 yards in an early-season 31-28 loss against eventual Big 12 champ Arizona State.
His PFF scouting report stated: “Hobert played 92% of his snaps in the slot at Texas State. He dropped only one of his 92 targets in 2024.”
