Seahawks In-Division Trade Proposal Lands Them 1,300 Yard Receiver

The Seattle Seahawks made what many believe to be an intelligent move this offseason, in moving off veteran DK Metcalf, for the price of a second round pick in last April’s draft, and subsequently picking up former Offensive Player of the Year, Cooper Kupp.

Kupp is not the player he was a few years ago, having not broken the 1,000 yard receiving mark since his Triple Crown-winning, Super Bowl-MVP season back in 2021.

If the team is to make full use of new quarterback, Sam Darnold, then maximizing his surrounding weapons will be crucial. And given that they are now down a tight end, having released Noah Fant on Sunday, the impetus for obtaining quality receiving weapons becomes more imperative.

Thus, this trade proposal has the Seahawks make a move for discontent division-rival wide receiver, Jauan Jennings, of the San Francisco 49ers.

Trade Proposal Hauls In Jauan Jennings From The 49ers

It was reported last week that Jennings wanted a new deal or a trade by the start of training camp this week. However, training camp has started, and the 49ers revealed that the 28 year old has not yet asked for a trade.

The Tennessee alum had his best season yet in 2024, managing 975 receiving yards off of 77 receptions, alongside 6 touchdowns.

Although this does not establish himself as a bona fide WR1, he is unquestionably a starter at this point in his career, most likely in the spot as the second receiver on a team.

PFF listed Jennings as one of their possible trade candidates during training camp, and the numbers back up what many saw from the 49er last season.

“Amid one of the more injury-plagued seasons for a team in recent memory,” Bradley Locker of PFF wrote, “Jennings quietly flourished with the 49ers in 2024: His 83.7 PFF receiving grade slotted 15th among qualified wideouts. On top of that, Jennings also placed in the top 20 in yards per route run (2.26) and passer rating when targeted (103.2). His prowess as a blocker — recording a 73.8-plus PFF grade in both pass blocking and run blocking — only enhances his value.”

What Would A Trade For Jennings Look Like For The Seahawks?

San Francisco is unlikely to be desperate to ship off the player who may otherwise start as their WR1 this season, to none other than an NFC West rival, but if Seattle are willing to give up the most of any other organization, general manager John Lynch may decide that a move to the Pacific North West for Jennings is in the team’s best interests.

Jennings would occupy the role currently being taken up by Marques Valdez Scantling on the starting lineup, who signed a 1 year, $4 million deal with Seattle earlier this offseason.

And between him, Kupp and outstanding young receiver, Jaxon Smith Njigba, the Seahawks have an opportunity to be a sleeper choice for arguably the best starting trio in the NFL at wideout.

Jennings’ current deal is up at the end of the season, but he would still cost the Seahawks a reasonable amount – both in trade compensation and in the monetary value of his next contract. But given they have the 10th most room in 2026 at nearly $60 million, this should not be a major roadblock.
