Seahawks immediately targeted this critical position after massive draft failure

The Seattle Seahawks had 11 picks in the 2025 draft, and you could argue that the weakest pick of the 11 was still a solid choice. They still had a critical need to fill after the draft.

Your Seattle Seahawks made quite a splash at the 2025 NFL Draft. Virtually every draft expert - and the draft expert wannabes - gave John Schneider an A grade for the players they added this year. As always, those experts—and we 12s—may not know just how good any of these guys are for a couple of years. Frank Clark only had three sacks as a rookie, and he turned out to be pretty good.

Even with 11 selections, you can't always get what you want. But as Mick Jagger said, "If you try sometimes you'll find you get what you need." Well, Mick, that doesn't always happen, either. The Seahawks tried 11 times and didn't get a single player at this critical position of need.

Seahawks had to wait until after the draft to sign cornerbacks

As for the 2025 Seahawks draft class, we all know we got some stars and some duds. That's just how it works. The 2017 draft brought us Ethan Pocic and Shaquill Griffin, both fine players. But first-round pick Malik McDowell was a notorious failure. Yet Chris Carson and David Moore were both taken in the seventh round. You never know for sure.

Look at the heralded 2012 draft class. Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson in the second and third rounds, yeah, that's pretty solid. Bruce Irvin was excellent, but not quite a first-round talent. Of the other seven draftees, Seattle got the most value from seventh-rounder J.R. Sweezy. But everyone played at least four years in the NFL. That's ridiculously good.

In both of those drafts, Seattle still didn't get everything it wanted. Schneider is always on the hunt for more talent. In the past, he's signed notable players like Jermaine Kearse, DeShawn Shead, and the guy on the poster of undrafted free agents, the excellent Doug Baldwin. He'll have to do it again, this time at the cornerback position.

This draft was so hectic that we, meaning your 12thManRising crew, lost track a couple of times just exactly where the Seahawks were drafting. Yeah, thanks for that, JS. We all felt a bit better when we learned that even Mike Macdonald didn't realize that Seattle had only taken two players on defense. Nobody had that on their bingo card, that's for sure.

Seattle needed at least another cornerback coming into 2025. Yes, they have Spoon, Riq, and Josh Jobe returning. But a wise man once said, you can never have too many corners." I think it was Mark Twain. Considering that Witherspoon was the only one of those three who played at a Pro Bowl level, the Seahawks need more cornerbacks.

They have added two so far after the draft. Zy Alexander started for LSU the past two seasons after transferring from Southeastern Louisiana. At 6'1" and 187 pounds, he has good size, if not great speed (4.56 40). What he does have is production.

He had four interceptions and 11 pass defenses in 19 games at LSU, along with a passer rating allowed of 68.2 last year. He was rated a fourth-round selection by draftbuzz.com, and deserves a shot in Seattle.

The Seahawks also signed Isas Waxter out of Villanova. At 6'1" and 209 pounds, he's another corner with the size to battle big receivers for position. He's not exactly a speedster either, posting an identical 40-yard dash time of 4.56. Over the past two seasons, he amassed two picks, 10 pass defenses, six tackles for a loss, and forced three fumbles. He sounds like a bigger Coby Bryant, honestly. And that would be more than acceptable.
