We don’t have to worry about Colt McCoy anymore.

A notorious tormentor of the Seattle Seahawks is hanging up the cleats.

Wait a minute, didn’t Aaron Donald already retire?

Why yes. But sometimes the Seahawks would beat Donald’s teams. They were never able to solve the problem of the man, the myth, the legend: Colt McCoy.

“Colt McCoy, a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist at the University of Texas and 14-year NFL quarterback, will join NBC Sports as an analyst for Big Ten Football coverage,” the press release stated.

McCoy started against Pete Carroll’s Seahawks three times and won them all. Only Brock Purdy and Case Keenum can similarly brag about getting at least three starts against Carroll’s teams and going undefeated.

What made McCoy a Seahawks menace was not being a prolific passer, it was the fact that he was a part of some of the most wretched Seahawks performances of the Carroll era.

Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2010, McCoy’s first start against the Seahawks was the infamous 2011 game when Charlie Whitehurst filled in for an injured Tarvaris Jackson. Without exaggeration, this was one of the worst games in NFL history, and the Browns won 6-3. McCoy was 20-of-35 for 175 yards and an interception, but his ability to haunt the Seahawks was prevalent when Kam Chancellor got called for roughing the passer on this play.

The follow-up act wouldn’t occur until 2020, when the heavily favored Seahawks just needed to beat the lowly New York Giants at home to maintain their push for the No. 1 seed. McCoy, again, unspectacular, going 13/22 for 105 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Seattle lost 17-12 in what was the undeniable hammer blow to the Let Russ Cook movement. It was McCoy’s only win as Giants starter.

Then the grand finale happened in 2021 when he was with the Arizona Cardinals. Unlike the other two games, McCoy torched the Seahawks something fierce in what was Russell Wilson’s first home game since his finger injury. He posted one of the best games of his career, going 35-of-44 for 328 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 turnovers in Arizona’s 23-13 win at Lumen Field. It was another wretched performance by the Seahawks offense, the recurring theme whenever McCoy shows up.

No more Aaron Donald and no more Colt McCoy. It truly is the dawn of a new era for Seahawks football.

Enjoy retirement, Colt. Please stay in the broadcast booth and never venture into the NFL to call Seahawks games.
