Seahawks fans might get to see a Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson reunion

Former Seattle Seahawks player Russell Wilson had a very Russell Wilson season once he came back from being injured. The quarterback started off well with his newest team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then faded. For much of the last six games, Wilson struggled to throw for as many as 200 yards. His inefficiency forced the Steelers' defense to win the games. It couldn't.

Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks

Wilson began his Steelers career by throwing for at least 264 yards in four of his first six games. The team went 5-1 in those games. In the last seven games, though, Wilson only threw for at least 217 yards twice. The Steelers dropped their last five games, including being soundly beaten by the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Wilson is now 36 years old, and unlikely to re-sign with Pittsburgh. He will be a free agent, and able to sign anywhere. The question is where, though one possibility could be very intriguing for Seahawks fans even though Wilson will not be coming back to Seattle. He could end up with the quarterback-needy Las Vegas Raiders and could be coached by a very familiar face.

Former Seahawks Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson together again? Maybe.

That person would be former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll is reportedly going to be interviewed, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, on Monday by Raiders brass for their current head coaching vacancy. Carroll would be the oldest head coach in the league if he is hired, but he has the energy of a 25-year-old.

Another interesting part of the situation is that the Raiders are owned in part by former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Brady will be part of the decision-making process in the hiring of a new coach, and also who to sign in free agency. Carroll and Wilson lost to Brady in Super Bowl XLIX. Oddly, Carroll and Wilson could potentially join a team in which they have to answer to Brady.

Still, we are not there quite yet, but both the moves would make sense. The Raiders are not ready to compete for a championship (or probably even a playoff spot), but Wilson would be a better bridge to the organization's next long-term QB1 than anyone else the Raiders have under contract currently.

Carroll knows how to help mold a competitive team, and he would also help reset the culture of the Raiders. Maybe Brady and Las Vegas majority owner Mark Davis would see the coach as someone who could help right the team for the long-term future even if Carroll isn't still the head coach in five years.

Would Carroll accept coaching Wilson again? Sure. Even after former Seahawks such as Richard Sherman criticized Carroll after they left Seattle, the coach still offered them a chance to come back and help give pointers to the team during various training camps. Carroll is a nice enough guy to not hold grudges.

As for Wilson, he probably would be happy just to have a place to play. Working with Carroll again would at least give the quarterback an understanding of what his new team's coach expects.

Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson together again? It could happen. Just not with the Seattle Seahawks.
