The Seattle Seahawks are losing offensive tackle Jason Peters to retirement after a decorated 19-year career spanning five franchises; however, the team is gaining his services off the field after announcing he would join the front office as a veteran mentor.
After joining the Buffalo Bills in 2004 as an undrafted free agent, Peters would go on to have a stellar career which included a Super Bowl championship with the Philadelphia Eagles and being named to the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team.
A two-time first-team All-Pro, Peters appeared in eight games for the Seahawks last season. He was named to the Pro Bowl nine times.
Peters had made his retirement public just hours before Seattle announced his hire to the team.
After Tom Brady retired in 2023, Peters was the oldest active player at the time. Due to injuries to the Seahawks' starting tackles, Abaham Lucas and Charles Cross, the team added Peters to the active roster in November 2023.
In October 2024, he was re-signed to Seattle's practice squad as injuries had once again stifled the team. Lucas was on the physically unable to perform list with a knee injury and George Fant was added to injured reserve. Peters served as depth behind Cross and Stone Forsythe and would start two games last year.
Peters played for the Bills (2004-08), Eagles (2009-20), Chicago Bears (2021), Dallas Cowboys (2022) and Seahawks (2023-24).
