Seahawks Add Former Chargers Third-Round Pick to Roster

JT Woods signs with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed safety JT Woods to a reserve/future deal for the 2025 season. Woods was selected in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round, 79^th overall. Woods played in 50 games across four seasons at Baylor. In those 50 games, Woods put up 157 tackles, including eight tackles for loss, one sack, nine interceptions (including one pick-six), five passes defensed, four fumble recoveries, and one fumble return for a touchdown. Safe to say that Woods was lighting the boards up during his time with the Bears football team.

Entering the 2022 NFL Draft, Woods was one of the top safety prospects, but still managed to fall to 79^th. Woods spent two seasons with the Chargers, playing in 13 games, and recording only six tackles during that time. Woods was waived by the Chargers in August 2024 before signing to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. Woods lasted with the Eagles practice squad through October 22, 2024 before joining the Chicago Bears’ practice squad in November. Once the Bears season ended, Woods became a free agent, available to sign anywhere.

In signing with the Seahawks as a reserve/future signing, this is a low risk, high reward position for Seattle. As with most reserve/future signings, virtually no cap room is affected by the signing, giving young players like Woods the opportunity to fight for a final roster spot during training camp. The Seahawks safety room behind Julian Love and Coby Bryant is wide open (especially with Rayshawn Jenkins being a possible cap casualty, and K’Von Wallace being a free agent this Spring.) Perhaps Woods can live up to his Day 2 draft pick billing and be a pleasant surprise for Seattle. Either way, this is a very low risk, but highly intriguing signing.
