Reflecting on the 2023 Season

The Seahawks are eager to enhance their roster and try to make a playoff push in 2024.

Brandon Aiyuk, WR
Brandon Aiyuk has been a hot topic in trade discussions this offseason. With Aiyuk entering the final year of his rookie deal and extension negotiations with the San Francisco 49ers stalling, trade rumors have been swirling. Keep in mind that Aiyuk, as per the terms of his rookie deal, is scheduled to play on the ‘fifth-year option' in 2024. This would pay him $14.1 million. Sources around the league believe he is seeking a contract with an annual average of well over $25 million. However, the 49ers have been reluctant to meet that price.
Further complicating matters for San Francisco, the 49ers used their first-round pick on wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. They currently have only $3.6 million in cap space. Trading Aiyuk would clear over $14 million in cap space with no dead money, making it a financially sensible move.
Aiyuk's versatility is among his most attractive qualities. Capable of lining up both outside and in the slot, he would seamlessly fit into Seattle's offensive schemes. His ability to stretch the field and secure contested catches would perfectly complement DK Metcalf's physicality and Tyler Lockett's precision. Budda Baker requested a trade last year, but the Arizona Cardinals opted to give him a raise. That kept him on the team amidst ongoing trade speculation. Given that Baker is in the final year of his contract, the Cardinals might consider moving him soon. Trading Baker would save Arizona $15.1 million, while potentially netting them valuable assets for a player who could leave for nothing next spring. Moreover, the Cardinals are not expected to be strong playoff contenders in the tough NFC West, even with Baker.
The Seahawks should seize the opportunity to bring him back to his home state. Baker has cemented his status as one of the NFL's premier safeties. His speed, tackling prowess, and coverage ability make him an exceptional talent. For Seattle, acquiring Baker would address a critical need in their secondary, providing a versatile playmaker capable of influencing the game in various ways.
