Scott Cochran told Paul Finebaum his former boss at Alabama is “fired up” for the former strength coach.
Cochran, just recently named as head coach at West Alabama, appeared on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Thursday and said Saban reached out to him upon hearing the news of the new gig.
“I would not be here if it wasn’t for him,” Cochran said. “... He’s reached out and he’s so fired up for me.
“You know him, he’s like ‘anything I can do for you.’ I was like, ’OK, I’m gonna be calling for sure.‘”
Cochran had been out of coaching since after the 2023 season, instead working to promote addiction recovery.
He began coaching under Saban at LSU, and returned to work under him in Tuscaloosa after a stint in the NBA.
After the 2020 season, Cochran took a special teams coordinator job under Kirby Smart at Georgia. He resigned from the UGA staff in 2024 due to personal issues, later revealed to be addiction struggles.
