The Bold and the Beautiful's Liam is forever just...Liam. He's been hiding in the background for a while now, but has finally taken center stage once again. This time, he is not cheating on Steffy with Hope or cheating on Hope with Steffy. Instead, he is dying. When he learned his fate this past week, Scott Clifton had us glued to the screen, making him Soap Central's pick for Performer of the Week.
The Bold and the Beautiful's Clifton is better than ever
Liam might not be everyone's cup of tea, and even Clifton has acknowledged that in interviews. Liam can be indecisive to say the least, as well as a little whiny, and not always honest. But being alone can humble a man, and that may be what's happened to Liam. When Hope (Annika Noelle) divorced him and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) refused to leave Finn (Tanner Novlan) for him, Liam might have done a little soul searching. We can't know for sure because we've barely seen him for the last year and a half, but Clifton has shown us a kinder, gentler Liam who is all about his precious daughters.
As Liam put on a happy face for Kelly (Sophia Paras), it was easy to see the fear in his eyes. He knew there was more wrong with him than just a fall, but he was in denial for Kelly's sake, as well as his own. He didn't want to face the truth, but eventually, he had no choice because Steffy and Finn laid it out bare.
Liam's denial
Liam might not have said it, but by the end of Wednesday's episode, we knew Liam realized what Steffy and Finn were saying was true. He has an inoperable brain tumor. However, he told them he wouldn't accept this death sentence because he had his little girls to live for. In fact, they were all he had. When he put it like that, we knew where Liam's mind had been for more than a year. He had been lonely, and Beth and Kelly kept him going.
Clifton showed us we didn't have to see Liam go through his change to know that he had changed. He broke out hearts without any words because the look on his face said it all. Liam is not going to go down without a fight, and we are here to watch Clifton act the hell out of this story as only he can.
