Though she’s been hesitant in the past about having another child, Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay seems to have changed her mind. She’s not in any rush to expand her family with her husband, though.
On August 30, Scheana announced on her Scheananigans podcast that she and her man, Brock Davies, are considering adding to their family. This time, however, Scheana doesn’t want to experience either pregnancy or childbirth. She says they would either use a surrogate or adopt.
Their daughter Summer Moon was born on April 26, 2021, so she’s three now; the perfect age for a sibling. Yet Scheana’s difficult delivery and postpartum with Summer, combined with her anxiety issues, have made the concept of another pregnancy not exactly Good as Gold.
Scheana Shay has reason for concerns about expanding her family with husband Brock Davies
Scheana has made no secret of her issues with anxiety and told her friend and podcast guest, Janet Caperna, that she worries about having a second child.
“I don’t know if I want to do it again,” the Apples singer said. “I don’t know if I can, I don’t know … But I do have an appointment after this podcast with [the doctor] who froze my eggs.”
“So we’re going to just take the next steps to see about fertilizing the eggs, see if we have any embryos,” she added. “That’s as far mentally as I can go. We have the consult today. And then we need to get the eggs transferred over to [the doctor’s] new facility [before moving forward].”
“But I know [if we] have to go the surrogate route, it’s going to be a year and a half, two years before we would even have a baby,” Scheana added. “So hopefully, by then, I’m mentally a little stronger.”
Prior to conceiving Summer Moon, Scheana suffered a miscarriage. Then at 40 weeks of pregnancy with Summer, her medical team had to induce labor. Her blood pressure skyrocketed as the Pump Rules OG endured pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome, either of which can be fatal.
“It was really scary,” Scheana explained. “Basically, my liver was struggling. I was borderline about to have a stroke or a seizure.” Is it any wonder she worries about possibly repeating that situation? Any woman would think twice.
Some fans don’t understand Scheana’s worries
Following her difficult delivery, she told People in September 2021, “I don’t know if I want to do this again. It won’t be a better pregnancy.”
Some fans seem to have forgotten Scheana’s nightmare of A Baby Story and are wondering why she wouldn’t carry her own child. They even suggested it was to do with her body; a ridiculous take.
“So why can’t you carry? … Is there pregnancy concerns, health concerns?” a fan asked via Instagram.
“She doesn’t wanna gain weight again,” another responded.
“Breaks my heart we are in a place [where] women are so worried about their body image they won’t carry kids anymore,” another added.
Fortunately, there were others who posted support.
“She had a difficult childbirth and almost died, so yeah, using a surrogate is a great option here,” a sympathetic fan wrote.
“She had HELLP syndrome, which is life-threatening for her and her baby,” chimed in another. “So insinuating it was about weight and vanity is completely unnecessary.”
Scheana made it clear that she and Brock were also considering adoption or surrogacy. “I would freeze embryos before I would try to get naturally pregnant again,” she said.
