SBNation Reacts Results: Seahawks fans are buzzing after much-needed win vs. Falcons

After a rough three-game losing streak, the Seattle Seahawks are back in the win column once again. Seattle defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34-14 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which allowed the Seahawks to regain first place in the NFC West after the San Francisco 49ers’ 28-18 loss versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

Final Thoughts: Seattle Seahawks Thump Atlanta Falcons 34-14, Retake NFC West Lead

With just two games remaining before Seattle’s Week 10 bye, it will be crucial for the Seahawks to maintain the division lead. The next challenge in holding this lead will be a home contest against the AFC East leading Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

As per usual, the Sean McDermott-coached Bills are a really solid team. Buffalo has won their last two games and boasts the fifth-best offense and seventh-ranked defense, leading the AFC East by 2.5 games. Facing the Bills will be no easy task, but Seattle fans feel as though the Seahawks are up for the challenge, as shown in this week’s poll.

89% of fans feel that Mike Macdonald’s team is heading in the right direction, which is a 46% improvement from the results of last week’s poll. Last week’s win in Atlanta was a much-needed morale boost, as things were beginning to look a bit dicey following Seattle’s losses against the Giants and 49ers. After some growing pains, it appears as though the Seahawks are getting things back on track.

Most fans feel that Sunday’s Week 8 matchup will be a close one, with 81% saying that whoever wins will win by just one possession. That being said, it was a bit of a toss-up as far as who would win, as 53% said that the Seahawks would beat the Bills.

As noted earlier, Buffalo’s defense is ranked seventh in points given up in the NFL, allowing an average of 19.4 points per game. Seattle has done well in scoring points this year, averaging 25.7 points per game, which is eighth in the league. On the other side, it will be interesting to see how Seattle’s defense handles Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense, as Mike Macdonald and Aden Durde’s defense is ranked 19th in points against through seven games.

Winning cures a lot of ills, and sometimes even one victory can go a long way. This is evident in the rejuvenated status of the 12s after Seattle’s Week 7 road victory, as 70% of fans feel as though the Seahawks will be leading the NFC West heading into their bye week.

If Seattle defeats the Bills, who are looking to compete with the Chiefs for the AFC’s top seed, I think that the Seahawks have a good shot at leading the division going into Week 10. Of course, the Rams will be another challenge altogether, but beating Buffalo would be massive for Seattle’s chances.

With a win on Sunday, the Seahawks would finish October at 2-2. This would be a really good finish to the month, having gone 0-2 through the first two weeks of October. Let’s hope Seattle ends the month on a high note!
