Russell Wilson's decision to join the New York Giants has now led to questions about Aaron Rodgers' future in the NFL. However, fans are convinced they know exactly where the four-time MVP is heading next.
Rodgers has been linked with a number of teams this offseason after he was released by the New York Jets on March 12. The Giants, Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers had been mentioned to be interested in him, with the 41-year-old quarterback reportedly visiting Pittsburgh last Friday, per ESPN.
With the Giants opting to go with Wilson and the Vikings reportedly preparing to go with J.J. McCarthy as their QB1, though, Rodgers appears to be left with just one choice: the Steelers.
Adam Schefter of ESPN highlighted the situation after reporting Wilson's one-year deal worth up to $21 million with the Giants, noting that "it also now leaves Rodgers and the Steelers in a position to work out their own agreement, if the quarterback decides he wants to play this season."
NFL fans, for their part, speculated the same and expressed belief that Rodgers is now headed to Pittsburgh.
"Rodgers signs a 2 year deal with the Steelers tomorrow," a commenter wrote. Another one said, "We're gunna get a primetime game of Joe Burrow vs Aaron Rodgers matchup aren't we. Rodgers will sign with Steelers and NFL will have a MNF game of Steelers vs Bengals."
"Aaron Rodgers going to the Steelers lmfaooooo," a social media user added.
A fourth fan theorized, "Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers and Giants get their bridge QB for Shedeur Sanders. Book it."
"We know what this means: Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers or Vikings. God help us," a poster further stated.
An NFL fan asked, "so rodgers def to steelers?"
It remains to be seen what Rodgers will actually do. As Schefter noted, he still has the option to call it a career. If he decides to keep playing, however, he might not have a lot of choices.
