As Russell Wilson heads to free agency, one of the biggest questions is the kind of contract he'll command in the market. After proving he's still a capable QB who can lead a team to the playoffs, he's definitely due for more than the one-year, $1.2 million deal he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason.
However, at 36 years old and after a forgettable run with the Denver Broncos from 2022 to 2023, the length of the contract is expected to be a major talking point in negotiations.
Interestingly, ESPN insider Dan Graziano shared his take on the Wilson situation and made a prediction on the contract he'll get this offseason.
According to the NFL expert, he sees the one-time Super Bowl champion earning a two-year, $50 million deal with $35 million guaranteed. If it happens, it "would tie for 19th among quarterbacks in average annual value," according to Graziano.
"This isn't like last year, either, when the money he made from the Steelers was offset against the guaranteed money the Broncos were still paying him," Graziano explained. "The Broncos don't owe him any more, so Wilson won't be available for a minimum salary as he was last season."
It remains to be seen how much Russell Wilson will actually get in free agency, and which team he'll join.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been recently mentioned as a possible destination for him, but in a different ESPN prediction, Wilson was projected to return to the Steelers.
For now, fans can only wait and see what happens. Teams can start negotiating with players starting March 10, before the free agency window officially opens on March 12 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
