It now appears that it’s becoming more and more likely that the Golden State Warriors will have a new-look roster next season. There have been multiple reports linking Klay Thompson to a potential move away from the Bay Area, which will without a doubt mark an end of an era for Warriors basketball.
Thompson might not be the only casualty of a potential summer purge, though, with reports now indicating that All-Star swingman Andrew Wiggins could be on his way out as well.
Golden State Warriors Rumors: Andrew Wiggins Could Be on Trade Block
Wiggins signed a massive extension with the Warriors a couple of years ago, which means that he is locked up with the squad through 2027. This does not mean, however, that the Dubs will not consider moving him if the front office feels that it would be in their best interest to do so.
According to NBA insider Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports and Sporting News, Wiggins could indeed be on the trade block this summer:
“The Warriors are expected to actively shop Andrew Wiggins in trade talks this offseason. Wiggins has $84.7 million remaining on his contract over the next three years. With the emergence of Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State will attempt to offload Wiggins for a better fit,” Sidery reported on X, formerly Twitter.
This makes a lot of sense. Jonathan Kuminga is a star in the making, and he could be in line for yet another breakout year in 2024-25. This only means that Wiggins could be surplus to requirements for the Warriors.
Wiggins still holds a lot of value, and he likely won’t have a shortage of suitors if he suddenly becomes available. Golden State could potentially take their pick from a bunch of blockbuster trade offers for the 6-foot-7 wing as they look to capitalize on Stephen Curry’s last few remaining prime years.
