As the Vancouver Canucks took to the ice for practice at Rogers Arena on Sunday, there was a notable absence as captain Quinn Hughes was not in attendance.
During Saturday night's loss to the Seattle Kraken, Quinn Hughes missed the final nine minutes of the third period, with head coach Rick Tocchet telling reporters that he tweaked something and would be evaluated further on Sunday.
Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes absent from team's practice
The Vancouver Canucks returned home following last night's loss and instead of getting the day off, they were back to work with a practice at Rogers Arena to prepare for Wednesday's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
In a post on social media shortly after practice began, Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver shared that Quinn Hughes was not on ice, along with Thatcher Demko, who was placed on injured reserve last weekend.
'no surprise, but no Quinn Hughes at #Canucks practice today. No Thatcher Demko either' Paterson said.
Hughes, 25, suffered an injury during their game on January 31st in Dallas, which was later revealed to be relating to his oblique muscle, causing him to miss six games and forced him to withdraw from the United States' roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
After practice, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet gave an update on Quinn Hughes where he said that the captain tweaked something not relating to his oblique.
Tocchet added that they'll see how Quinn Hughes feels in the coming days with an off-day tomorrow and if he's able to practice with the team on Tuesday.
'He tweaked something else (not oblique muscle) and it was more cautionary. Kind of a maintenance day today and we'll see how he is tomorrow (Monday) and go from there. It's a day off and see if he gets in Tuesday (practice).' Tocchet said.
The Orlando native has been the Vancouver Canucks' MVP this season, registering 60 points (14 goals and 46 assists) in 50 games and if he has to miss anymore time due to injury, that'll be a big blow to the team's chances of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
