Rich Gannon Calls out Matthew Stafford After QB Spurns Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have been in the market for a quarterback all offseason and even tried their luck at landing Matthew Stafford this week. Las Vegas would have needed to trade for the Rams quarterback, but it was all for naught as the Super Bowl-winning player chose to return to Los Angeles.

Former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, the team's last franchise player under center, weighed in on the Stafford situation on Friday. The 2002 NFL MVP was not happy with the way things went down regarding the 16-year veteran and basically accused him of using Las Vegas as leverage.

"This was the plan all along for Stafford and his team!" said Gannon in a post on X.

This is a sore subject for Raiders fans after the way things went down with Ben Johnson at the beginning of the offseason. It became apparent after Johnson was hired as the head coach for Chicago that he had been using Las Vegas as leverage to get a bigger contract from the Bears.

The worst aspect of this situation, however, is that the Raiders still have a question mark at quarterback, which is the most important position on the field. Stafford would have solved their problem, at least for a few seasons, but Las Vegas is now back to square one.
