Rex Ryan ‘100 percent’ thinks he will be the next New York Jets coach

It seems like Rex Ryan made his interview for the New York Jets’ vacant head coach position appear out of nowhere.

If he can go 2-for-2 in his predictions, the Jets (5-12) will be bringing Ryan back as their next head coach.

Last week, the 62-year-old was vocal about “expecting” a chance to return. Finally after a few days, it was reported that he would get his shot in an interview which will take place on Tuesday.

Ryan joined ESPN Radio the day before he will speak with the Jets. During his chat, Ryan said he “100 percent” thinks he is going to be hired in New York. Simply put, the always-confident man thinks he’s the No.1 person for the job.

“The reason I think I’m going to get it is because I’m the best guy for it. It ain’t close,” Ryan said.

Ryan’s full thoughts can be found in the clip below:

Ryan went 46-50 in six seasons as New York’s bench boss. He was previously employed by the Jets from 2009 to 2014, which included back-to-back trips to the AFC championship game in his first two seasons. That was the last time the team cracked the postseason.

After that, he spent two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he had a 15-16 record.

New York’s last head coach, Robert Saleh, was fired on Oct. 8. The team, 2-3 at the time, named Jeff Ulbrich the interim coach. It ended up with a 5-12 record.

After letting Saleh go, the Jets announced that the The 33rd Team, a football media, analytics and consulting media outlet, would assist owner Woody Johnson in their search for a new general manager and head coach. That group was founded by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and ex-Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman.
