REPORT: Seahawks Gave a Concerning Injury Update on Their Offensive Tackle Ahead of Their 3rd Preseason Game

Seattle Seahawks right tackle Abraham Lucas exited Week 1 with a knee injury, later identified as a chronic issue he’s dealt with since his collegiate career with the Washington State Cougars. As a result, Lucas missed their next ten games and played a limited role upon returning before being shut down in their regular season finale. He underwent surgery in January, hoping to fix his chronic knee pain.

The Seahawks placed Abraham Lucas on the active/PUP list before training camp started. After their first day of camp, Mike Macdonald told reporters they didn’t have a specific timetable for him to return.

“It’s tough with Abe … It’s a process right now. The timetable, I can’t tell you, but we’re looking at it. We’re trying to get there as fast as we can,” Macdonald said. “I think it would be fair to say that we were hoping it [his recovery] would go a little faster up to this point, but we’re in a process of bringing him back. We have a plan for him.”

Since then, Lucas hasn’t practiced and remains on the PUP list with less than three weeks until their first regular season game.

It’s unclear whether Abraham Lucas will play in Week 1

Reporters asked Mike Macdonald whether Lucas will return to the football field and start Week 1. Macdonald told reporters he doesn’t want to answer that question right now. His response could be an indication that he isn’t quite ready.

Who will fill in for him if he cannot play?

George Fant will start if Abraham Lucas misses time in 2024. Fant, a nine-year veteran, has received starting reps with the first-team offense throughout the offseason. The Seahawks shouldn’t worry about rushing Lucas because they have a reliable backup with plenty of starting experience in this league.
