Report: New York Giants Rookie Punished By NFL For Controversial Hit That Injured Jordan Addison

The NFL is indeed punishing a New York Giants rookie linebacker for a controversial hit they made on Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison in Week 1. Addison suffered an ankle injury against the Giants in Minnesota’s Week 1 win.

Giants linebacker Darius Muasau made a “hip drop” tackle on Addison. The tackle used to be a legal hit in the NFL, but the owners voted unanimously to make the “hip drop” tackle illegal.

The hip-drop tackle was a major talking point last season after Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews suffered an ankle injury against the Cincinnati Bengals in November.

The injury Addison suffered last week due to Muasau’s hit is the cause of the Vikings ruling the second-year wide receiver out against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.

Per Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the league fined Muasau $4,696 for “unnecessary roughness” on the play. Pelissero’s post includes a video of the illegal hit.

Does the tackle look unnecessarily rough?
