REPORT: Dallas Cowboys RB Trying Out A New Position During OTAs

The Dallas Cowboys could have a new wide receiver for the 2024 season. The Cowboys are experimenting with their roster ahead of the 2024 season. They’re considering having a second-year running back try out the slot position.

Former Kansas State standout Deuce Vaughn didn’t have a huge impact at running back in his rookie season. The speed back ran for 40 yards on 23 carries for the 2023 season. He also added 40 receiving yards on seven catches.

Put simply, Vaughn flashed skills better suited as a pass catcher than running back last season. The Cowboys already have a running back committee that will split carries between Ezekiel Elliott, Royce Freeman, and Rico Dowdle.

According to the Cowboys website, the team is looking at trying Vaughn at new positions during OTAs. He worked out as a wide receiver:

Deuce Vaughn played in a lot of different roles on Thursday, as he got a significant amount of work out in the slot as a receiving option in addition to his running back reps. In the return game, he continues to be the second option behind KaVontae Turpin with Jalen Cropper and Juanyeh Thomas also getting work with returns.

Vaughn could give defenses a headache in the slot. The 2023 sixth-round pick’s speed could be of help to the Cowboys as a kick returner due to the new kickoff rules.

While Vaughn wasn’t much use for the Cowboys last season, the team is trying to find a role he can succeed in for the 2024 campaign.
