Report: D.J. James visiting Giants for practice squad spot

James was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday.

With the Seattle Seahawks practice squad nearly filled, it appears as if recently waived rookie cornerback D.J. James will start Week 1 of the regular season elsewhere.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson noted on Wednesday that while James could land on the Seahawks practice squad at some point, the former Auburn standout is scheduled to visit with the New York Giants to be on their PS.

I think James could end up back on Seattle's practice squad at a later date, though the Giants and other teams are interested. I'm told he's set to head to New York to meet with them about potentially joining their PS. https://t.co/CbWTRH3Qii

James was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday after an inconsistent training camp and preseason. He was the only player from Seattle’s 2024 draft class not to make the active roster.

The Seahawks have two vacant spots on the practice squad, although one is expected to be filled by 2022 fifth-round pick Tyreke Smith, while the other slot is presumably for a third quarterback. This leaves James on the outside looking in.

If James does sign with the Giants, the sixth-round pick would become the highest Seahawks rookie to not be with the team in some capacity (active roster, practice squad, or an injury list) for Week 1 of the regular season since defensive end Obam Gwacham (also a sixth-round pick) back in 2015.
