By Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, most Chicago Bears fans were getting a little nervous as to what GM Ryan Poles' plan was for drafting a running back. After missing out on Heisman finalist Ashton Jeanty, who went to the Raiders, there was still plenty of talent on the board, including both Ohio State running backs Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson.
At the start of the second round, the Cleveland Browns selected Quinson Judkins at number 36. It seems like Poles knew that Henderson was getting close to being drafted and tried to pounce. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Bears tried to trade up from 38 to 39 by offering the Patriots an additional 7th-round pick, which ironically became running back Kyle Monangai from Rutgers.
The Bears ended up drafting wide receiver Luther Burden out of Missouri with the 39th pick and traded out of 41 all the way down to 56, netting Boston College offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo. Had the Bears been successful in their trade, they may not have traded out of the 41 spot, as other tackles were available.
Would a combination of TreVeyon Henderson and, say, offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery be something Bears coaches would be excited about? Or is Poles just as happy with Luther Burden, Ozzy Trapilo, and Kyle Monangai? Bears fans will find out soon enough.
