Recently Released Raiders Starter Sends Clear Message to NFL Teams

Jack Jones has shown some flashes of being an elite cornerback through his first three seasons. However, issues off the field and inconsistency on it have led to him getting cut by two teams.

The New England Patriots cut him during the 2023 season after he missed a team curfew during a road game. This led to the Las Vegas Raiders signing him, and he quickly earned a starting spot. He looked great for the Raiders in 2023, which led to him being a Week 1 starter last season.

While he wasn’t atrocious for the team in 2024, he wasn’t nearly as consistent and didn’t make as many big plays. With new head coach Pete Carroll coming in, he decided that the Raiders were better without Jones, and the cornerback was cut.

Jones has been a free agent for a couple of months now, and there hasn’t been a lot of movement on finding a new team. Regardless, he revealed that he’s been working hard and is hoping to land with another team soon.

“It’s me. It’s nothing else,” Jones said on “The Pivot.” “Playing in the NFL is a privilege, and if you don’t take advantage of that privilege, you’re going to lose it in a heartbeat.

“… I just can’t wait to prove myself to the next team. I’m working out every day, just going hard and ready to prove myself and show that I am who I say I am, not who they say I am.”

Jones’ Message to NFL Teams

Jones is too talented not to get another chance. There will be a team out there willing to sign him eventually. Perhaps the Raiders could even be interested in bringing him back, considering they are still thin at cornerback.

Jones already knows that he’ll get some tough questions from NFL teams, but is ready to answer them.

“I’m here for ball,” Jones responded when asked what he’d tell possibly interested NFL teams. “All the outside noise that I’m pretty sure they’re hearing that Jack is hanging out with the wrong group or Jack doesn’t always make the right decisions, I’m going to be there and prove it wrong. I’ll show up every day, put on my hard hat, close my mouth and get to work.”

Jones Knows He Needs to Be More Consistent

Jones understands that he still needs to prove himself. He also knows what he hasn’t been doing well. He’s ready to work as hard as he possibly can to be a better football player.

“It’s the day-to-day. It’s about being consistent,” Jones said. “I have to do that by showing up and proving it. I could sit here and tell you I’ll be perfect all day, that I’ll go 10-for-10 always. But without the work and effort and consistency, it’s all talk. I’m just going to show up and prove it. Whatever team needs a corner is going to give me an opportunity, and I’m going to show up and prove it every day. I’m going to be the best guy on the field and the best guy in the film room.”
